The Latest News and Rumours

- In Minnesota, it is expected that Marian Gaborik will file for arbitration if a long term deal is not worked out by today.

- With Matthew Barnaby already signed, it is expected the Stars will sign free agent Jeff Halpern today.

- Free agent Anson Carter is looking at both the Leafs and the Kings today. He will probably not sign in Toronto though. I sure hope the Canucks can get this guy back.

- The Detroit Red Wings are looking at both Dominik Hasek and Ed Belfour for the starting goaltender position. Ed Belfour is in Detroit today and it is expected that they will give him a physical to see if he is still in good shape to play. After all, he is coming off back surgery. The Red Wings are also looking at getting Biron from the Sabres. Buffalo would be looking for a second line player.

- Jaroslav Spacek will not be back with the Oilers next season. His agent has told the Edmonton Oilers that he has accepted an offer elsewhere. If this is true the Oilers defense takes a huge hit.

- Gary Roberts has not been moved yet, nor has Martin Havlat or Biron in Buffalo. I could see some deals happening in the next few weeks. Edmonton needs to get some defense. Dallas needs to unload defense, hmm, could we see a deal happening there? I have also heard Florida is interested in Havlat.

- In Philadelphia, Simon Gagne has not yet signed a deal. He is looking for rougly 4.5 M per year. He was paid 2 M last season and the Flyers do not want to pay so much more. If he doesn't sign soon, he could be dealt.

More to come.
